About Me

I am currently attending The Douglas J Aveda Institute in Chicago and will be graduating in June 2012. My passion has always been hair, makeup, and beauty in general and have always had the dream of opening my own salon and spa. In order to achieve that, I attended The University of Iowa and earned a degree in Economics. At Iowa, I thought a lot about what kind of salon I want to open so I wrote a business plan for this hypothetical salon. I still hope to own that salon one day, but I enjoy gaining experience as a hair stylist for now.
When people ask me what I like to do best, I cannot help but be honest and say I like everything. I love being creative with haircuts, and also love thinking outside the box when it comes to color. I also really like to shape eyebrows. My classmates even call me "the eyebrow queen." Utimately, I just like to make people feel beautiful on the outside as well as the inside. When my clients are happy, I am happy.
My earliest memory of being passionate about beauty was when I tried and tried to perfect the French Braid. I practiced on my own hair, on my sister's hair, and my dolls hair until I was skilled enough to practice on my friend's hair. I loved that they would come to me to make them feel beautiful.
Being able to study at Aveda has been a dream come true. I have always connected with Aveda because of their stance on saving the planet by recycling and using natural ingredients in their products. The location of the Aveda Institute is also incredible, because we get to have experience styling all different kinds of hair and working with many different personalities. I absolutely love it.
I hope I get a chance to participate in the 2012 Beacon event in Las Vegas. My ultimate goal is to open my own salon, so I think Beacon would be an incredible opportunity to gain knowledge by networking and interacting with salon owners and salon professionals.
